A holiday in the original
As a guest on Heligoland, you will take part in the life of an unusual place, characterised by the forces of nature, its location – far from the hustle and bustle of the mainland, its eventful history and a great diversity in a small space.
At the Hotel Rickmers Insulaner, we aim to capture the island's charm, rhythm and authentic atmosphere for you, combining it with the amenities and technology of a modern hotel.
The island location and the preservation order sometimes impose strict limits on us, but at the same time they provide material for a great deal of history and insights into another world.
Perfect location
The Hotel Rickmers Insulaner on Heligoland is located in the first row to the sea. It is situated right next to the famous lobster shacks at the picturesque inland harbour, a characteristic feature of the island.
The hotel's location is special: to the south, there is a view of the North Sea, while to the north, the landscape is green and lush. Despite this quiet location, the town centre is only about 200 metres away.
The Hotel Rickmers Insulaner offers you a pleasant setting for your Heligoland holiday. It combines the tranquillity of the island location with proximity to the places of interest and the life of Heligoland.
From this location, you can easily explore the values and beauties of the island. Let yourself be inspired by the special atmosphere of the North Sea island and discover not only Heligoland, but also your new ‘holiday self’. The Hotel Rickmers Insulaner offers you a good starting point for beautiful moments on Heligoland.
The focus is on you
The four-star Hotel Rickmers Insulaner offers you 45 rooms and suites, ranging from a single room with a sea view to a family suite.
But we don't just want to make your bed, we want to make your whole holiday. That's why our service offering includes many services that go above and beyond the norm, such as scooter rental, island tours and a friendly ear for your questions and requests.
High-quality art with a theme of Heligoland is on display throughout the hotel. This applies to the collection of paintings in the Gallery Restaurant, the tiled pictures and ‘water features’ in the SinnLand wellness area, and also to the garden park and public areas with lounge and winter garden.
Experience the North Sea island in an atmosphere that combines comfort, art and island flair.
500 years – one rock, one family
The Rickmers family has close ties with the island. The family's eventful and fascinating history begins with Ryckmer Peter Ryckmers, who is listed in the Reemen Register of 1514. The future shipyard founder and shipowner Rickmer Rickmers learned his boatbuilding trade right where the Insulaner stands today.
As with most families on the island, seafaring and fishing shaped everyday life and ensured survival. The company's activities later included trade, ship supplies, the Empress of India hotel and the island's shipping company.
The book ‘A Rock, a Family - 500 Years of Rickmers Helgoland’ tells the story of the small rock of Helgoland over the course of time, from family stories and documents. Among the relatives of this traditional island family is the well-known children's author James Krüss.
The house is part of this past and you can trace the history everywhere in the hotel.
Located in the middle of the North Sea, the Hotel Rickmers Insulaner offers a unique insight into the eventful history of Heligoland and its inhabitants.
Heligoland Travel by Ferry, Ship or Plane
At the latest since the founding of the seaside resort of Heligoland, there have been many stories about the sea journey to the island. Today you can choose between three travel options. One is the crossing with the classic seaside resort ships. They depart from several North Sea ports.
A catamaran also operates from Büsum, Brunsbüttel, Cuxhaven, and Hamburg. The travel time from Cuxhaven is about one hour. With the ferry, you can travel comfortably and relaxed across the North Sea while enjoying the fresh sea air.
The fastest way to travel is by plane from Cuxhaven/Spieka and Büsum. The planes fly to the island several times a day and are only about 20 to 25 minutes a route. You land on the Heligoland dune and then take the dune ferry for the approximately one-kilometer short journey to the main island.
Our recommendation: Book your tickets for seaside resort ships, catamaran, and flights directly with the “Helgoländer Botschaft” - your address for a stress-free and uncomplicated crossing to Heligoland.
